Downtown Westwood New Jersey

yep, it's me on the swing in the backyard. No, it didn't break.

Here is an old fashioned Dairy Queen in Montvale, NJ

Down the Shore

Lisa and I just got back from our first (very short) trip down the shore. We're still getting used to the fact that we can be in NYC one day (like we were last night--eating at Union Square Cafe through the generosity of the Reverend Stephen Gerth, Rector of the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin) and the next day be at the beach...

Today (it's my day off), we went to Point Pleasant beach and walked the boardwalk.

The weather was great (it was 84 in the city, but not nearly that warm on the boardwalk, not a cloud in the sky and a pleasant breeze), and there were plenty of people to watch.

After we (Lisa mostly) relaxed a bit, we took a closer look at what the boardwalk had to offer.

We were sure to take a peak in all of the candy stores.

After we looked there I was more than a little hungry and, resisting the chocolate temptation, we followed our noses (mine, mostly) to more substantial food.

We found a place that overlooked the Atlantic Ocean (and people in bathing suits, worn with varying degrees of success, at an outdoor bar). Lisa wasn't that hungry, so she just got the Caesar's salad, and I got a very tasty grouper sandwich.

We still had some time to kill (and were too dumb to think about rush hour traffic on the NJ Turnpike in and around Newark), so we looked around a bit more.

Lisa talked the guy at the coffee shop into adding some milk to an iced chai--there was a bit of a language problem at first--and she also got an ice cream cone. Somehow we were able to resist the fried oreos (6 for $4.99!). Maybe next time.

And maybe one of those Waffles with ice cream, too!
